Worshipful Company of Firefighters Charitable Trust

Charitable Giving Policy

The Trust will support apprenticeships, scholarships, bursaries and other educational initiatives. Funding will be provided for the support of students undertaking courses of study which in the opinion of the Trustees have a relevance to fire fighting, fire safety and the related disciplines which contribute to fire protection in the built environment.

The Trust will give grants to “core” charities which in the opinion of Trustees merit continuing support. A core charity need not necessarily be fire related, but should be relevant to the strategic plans of the Trust or the charitable work of the Lord Mayor.

Requests for charitable funding from others will be considered on their merits. When considering requests, Trustees will normally only consider charities which have a clear connection with fire and its consequences. In doing so, Trustees will not support:

  • individuals in pursuit of a personal charity fundraising effort;
  • fire services fire safety campaigns for which public funding exists;
  • major appeals, other than from the Lord Mayor, where the request is clearly part of a comprehensive wide ranging and general fundraising effort, and,
  • non-fire related requests.

With the exception of grants to core charities, Trustees will normally only support specific projects, rather than making grants for general purposes.

Note: Policy approved by the Trustees 10th July 2008.
