The Worshipful Company of Firefighters Charitable Trust

Closely associated with, but operating as a separate entity from the Worshipful Company of Firefighters, the Charitable Trust is a registered charity (number 1000562) with eight Trustees who are responsible for all aspects of its operation and are all members of the Worshipful Company.

The present Trustees are:-

Frances BloisChairman
Jeremy Beech Trustee Senior Past Master
Michael Harper Trustee Past Master
Colin Livett Trustee Past Master
Ron Murray Trustee IPM
Thomas Johnson Trustee Liveryman
Graham Maltby Trustee Under Warden in Waiting
Ian Parlane Trustee Honorary Treasurer
Steve Tamcken Clerk

The Charitable Trust administers the considerable funds which, each year, are distributed to causes associated with the Fire and Rescue Service. Since 2005 a sum approaching £100,000 has been donated to its Core Charities which are:-

  1. The Firefighters Memorial Trust
  2. The Fire Fighters Charity (Formaly known as the Ben Fund)
  3. RAFT, (Restoration of Appearance and Function Trust)
  4. The Massey Shaw and Marine Vessels Preservation Society
  5. The Lord Mayor’s Appeal.

These Core Charities can clearly demonstrate defined links with the firefighting profession, the City of London or other Charitable objects and were formally reviewed by the Trustees in March 2012. Core Charities do not automatically receive donations as of right and, whilst Trustees are minded where possible to ensure that significant donations have been approved for its Core Charities, they will also endeavour to make donations to one-off projects and deserving individuals providing that they meet the Trust’s Charitable Objects.

In all circumstances, Trustees will expect applications for potential donations to come directly to the Trustees from all organisations requesting donations, following the identical robust procedure previously introduced by the Trustees and detailed on the application form on this website – there will be no exceptions to this policy.

Where Trustees have approved donations, these will always be for a specific purpose with appropriate performance measures included to ensure satisfactory outcomes from all the Charity’s donations.

Each year (Usually in September) the Worshipful Company of Firefighters hold The Charity Ball on behalf of their Charitable Trust.
